Founded in 2018 from University of Tokyo research, BionicM develops wearable robotic prostheses around Bio Leg, a powered microprocessor knee for transfemoral amputees. The system combines a motor, onboard sensors and movement-control software to assist standing, level walking and stair use while adapting support to the wearer.
Bio Leg entered the United States after FDA Class II registration in 2023 and received a U.S. reimbursement code in 2024; sales and first customer deliveries followed that year. Its mechanical drive uses a THK ball screw and LM Guide, and BionicM reports completing a three-million-step durability test as part of product development.
