Published on 8 October, the system uses explicit representations of task progress to coordinate manipulation policies, navigation, rule-based controls and verification tools. It is designed to identify when an action has failed, reassess the robot's current state and retry or revise the affected stage, including during extended tasks where objects or environmental conditions change. CRIS-0 constructs executable task plans from a small number of demonstrations, identifying relevant physical variables, decomposing activities into stages and establishing measurable completion conditions. Its control architecture selects different tools depending on the operation, including SLAM-based navigation, generated functions using vision and inverse kinematics, and learned policies for contact-intensive manipulation. For example, when handling a tablecloth, the system tracks whether the material is securely grasped, its displacement from a target position and any detected slippage. Failed verification can trigger another grasp attempt or a revised motion, while tool errors such as invalid joint configurations can lead to updated control functions retained for subsequent execution. The system incorporates Aether AI's Causal World Model, which predicts changes in physical state following candidate actions and uses those intermediate representations to generate future observations. An additional action-generation module converts the model's representations into executable robot commands. Aether demonstrated the architecture on physical robots across object displacement, human intervention, multi-stage manipulation, personalised requests and unfamiliar objects. Its examples include correcting interrupted grasps, manipulating deformable materials, preparing drinks and reorganising household objects. The research release does not identify the exact robot manufacturer or model used across the physical demonstrations, and does not publish a consolidated quantitative success-rate comparison. CRIS-0 extends Aether AI's earlier CausalWM research, released in September, which introduced intermediate motion and geometry predictions into embodied world modelling. The company reported a TriWorldBench score of 66.04 and first-place results on the robot portion of PAI-Bench for that model, based on its published evaluation snapshot. Founded by UC San Diego researcher Biwei Huang, Aether AI announced a $20 million seed financing in June 2026 to develop causal world models, expand research infrastructure and pursue initial physical-AI applications. CRIS-0 represents the company's subsequent integration of world prediction, task planning and robot execution into a single experimental system.
