Morgan. Participants include Lockheed Martin Ventures, Decisive Point, Washington Harbour Partners and Booz Allen Ventures. The funding supports engineering recruitment, a larger production facility and expansion of its manufacturing partnerships. The company’s xCell system packages additive manufacturing into a deployable factory for producing modular drone airframes, payload structures and replacement parts near their point of use. It is designed to manufacture a complete Tempest unmanned aircraft and support changes between mission configurations. Local production also gives operators a way to replace damaged components and modify equipment without shipping every part from a central factory. Firestorm is developing the manufacturing process alongside a modular aircraft architecture, onboard computing, developer tools and mission-planning software. Those elements connect the aircraft configuration to the equipment and instructions used to build it. The July financing builds on an earlier US$12.5 million seed round as the company expands both its production footprint and its field-manufacturing systems. In January, the US Air Force awarded Firestorm a five-year IDIQ with a US$100 million ceiling for unmanned-aircraft development and integration. The contract provides a route for ordering development and integration work while the new financing funds the company’s own manufacturing capacity and product development.
