FANUC’s 27 October 2025 case study describes machines harvesting within a week of installation and continuing through day and night, allowing the grower to assign staff to other crop work. The harvesting system combines a FANUC LR Mate arm with Four Growers’ machine vision and motion-planning software. The system identifies ripe tomatoes, selects an approach through the plants and executes the picking movement. Grower-specific models and datasets adapt the harvesting criteria to the required ripeness and crop type. Westburg uses the machines for grape and cherry tomatoes and plans to expand its fleet. The installation addresses a recurring greenhouse workload in which workers must repeatedly identify fruit ready for picking and reach into densely planted rows. FANUC identifies the arm’s reach, speed, compact size and payload capability as factors in its selection for the application. Four Growers’ earlier work with Nature Fresh Farms began in 2022. That system paired a FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L with software that assessed tomato ripeness and plant health and planned harvesting paths. The Westburg fleet extends the company’s commercial greenhouse activity into a Dutch operating site, where the customer is using automated picking alongside its wider crop-management team.
