Work will begin on 18 Pacific Fleet ships under an initial award worth up to $54 million over five years. The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity vehicle is also available to customers across the armed services. Gecko’s climbing robots, drones and fixed sensors collect condition data from hulls, decks, welds and other components. Its Cantilever software combines these measurements into models used to identify structural defects and plan repairs. The initial work covers destroyers, amphibious warships and littoral combat ships. The company had previously worked on Navy surface ships and the Virginia- and Columbia-class submarine programmes. It reported that one flight-deck evaluation and digital model eliminated more than three months of potential maintenance delay. The new contract supports the Navy’s fleet-readiness programme; the $71 million figure is its maximum ordering value, with revenue dependent on work performed.
