Awards depend on technology readiness, manufacturing readiness and performance milestones under the High-Yield Production Robotics programme. The first stage will develop, validate and qualify autonomous welding, grinding, blasting, painting, assembly, inspection and other fabrication processes, then integrate them into a production line. HII’s Navy programmes include aircraft carriers, submarines, destroyers, amphibious ships, future frigates and uncrewed surface vessels. In the delivery stage, HII intends to source work from the new line if it meets cost, schedule and quality requirements. Production would start with small steel structures and expand towards larger units and modules. The $900 million is the combined potential value across both partners; the announcement did not allocate it between them. HII separately planned to outsource more than 2.5 million shipbuilding hours in 2026, up 30% from 2025.
