The robot was released on 19 August, according to contemporary reporting by IT Home, ahead of its appearance at the 2024 World Robot Conference. STAR1 has 55 active degrees of freedom: 12 across the legs, 14 across the arms, three at the waist, two in the neck and 12 in each hand. RobotEra lists maximum joint torque of 400 N·m and rotational speed of up to 25 rad/s, providing the mechanical foundation for dynamic locomotion and manipulation. The company has placed the hands and visual sensors in positions intended to resemble human anatomy, making human demonstrations easier to reuse for robot learning. Its control approach incorporates imitation learning and reinforcement learning, covering both lower-body stability and upper-body coordination. RobotEra describes the hardware as modular, allowing components and body configurations to be reused while control algorithms are adapted. STAR1 brings the company’s humanoid and dexterous-hand development together in a platform intended for embodied AI research.
