The company’s 13 December demonstration shows the robot walking, balancing and manipulating objects, extending the Optimus programme first presented in 2022. The redesign places greater emphasis on coordinated movement and a lighter mechanical structure. Tesla shows an articulated neck, more fluid walking and controlled changes in posture, alongside hands designed to handle objects with greater precision. A delicate egg-handling sequence demonstrates the interaction between finger movement and contact control. These are selected prototype behaviours shown in Tesla’s own footage, rather than measurements of sustained autonomous work in a customer environment. Gen 2 brings Tesla’s humanoid work further into integrated hardware development, with its own actuators and sensing supporting both whole-body motion and manipulation. The video introduces the revised prototype without announcing a commercial delivery programme.
