Unveiled on 17 July, the robot uses a dual-battery architecture that allows one pack to maintain power while the other is removed and replaced. The company’s demonstration shows the humanoid using its arms to remove a depleted battery, place it in the charging station and install a replacement. UBTECH says the exchange takes approximately three minutes, addressing the interruption that would otherwise be required to recharge a robot or have a worker change its battery. A battery-management system monitors remaining energy and can select between charging and swapping according to task priorities. Switching between single-pack and dual-pack operation keeps the system active during the exchange, with the charging station providing the external infrastructure for repeated use. Walker S2 extends UBTECH’s industrial Walker programme, which targets tasks in manufacturing environments. Autonomous power replenishment is intended to support longer operating schedules, although the battery-swap demonstration alone does not establish continuous autonomous task execution throughout a factory shift.
