Toyota suspended e-Palette after a Paralympic Village collision and resumed only after operational safeguards
An e-Palette struck a visually impaired athlete during the Tokyo Paralympics, prompting Toyota to suspend the autonomous shuttle service. Operations resumed with additional human oversight, audible warnings and intersection controls. The incident did not end the platform, but showed that its driverless operation depended on site procedures and attendants as well as onboard autonomy.
