Monitoring swimmer performance is crucial for improving training and enhancing athletic techniques. Traditional methods for tracking swimmers, such as above-water and underwater cameras, face limitations due to the need for multiple cameras and obstructions from water splashes.

  • The study used a DJI Mavic 3 Pro flying continuously at 8 m, recording 4K video at 60 fps during swimmer training and competition.
  • MediaPipe Pose extracted swimmer landmarks from the aerial footage to estimate arm angles, stroke duration and swimming velocity.
  • Across five swimmers, stroke-duration error stayed below 0.3 seconds and velocity error ranged from 0.04 to 0.35 m/s.
