Agility names Nyobolt as Digit 5 fast-charging battery partner

Agility Robotics has named Cambridge, UK-based Nyobolt as the battery technology partner behind Digit 5’s planned nine-minute charging system. In the 15 October announcement, the companies said the next-generation humanoid will run for 90 minutes between charges, achieving a 10:1 operating-to-charging ratio compared with Digit 4’s 2:1. Agility expects repeated charging cycles to support more than 20 hours of productive operation in a 24-hour period. That figure describes projected daily utilisation, not continuous battery endurance; early access to Digit 5 is scheduled for the first half of 2027, with wider availability to follow over the next six to nine months.

Nyobolt develops high-power battery cells and systems using proprietary anode materials and integrated power electronics. The supplier has an existing robotics relationship with warehouse automation company Symbotic, which began using Nyobolt batteries in its SymBot mobile robots in 2025. Relative to the ultracapacitor packs they replace, the companies reported six times the energy capacity and 40% lower weight, with retrofit compatibility for earlier robots. Symbotic subsequently led Nyobolt’s $60 million Series C in May 2026, valuing the Cambridge company at $1 billion. Nyobolt also referred to work with an unnamed humanoid developer in May, without identifying that customer.

Agility unveiled Digit 5 in September, disclosing the same runtime and charging targets alongside a 22.7 kg payload, interchangeable grippers and a safety architecture designed for work near people. It reported more than $300 million in multi-year orders subject to contractual milestones and over 65,000 hours of operation across earlier Digit deployments at customers including GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada.
