Agility Robotics announced RoboFab on 18 September 2023, a 70,000-square-foot humanoid robot manufacturing facility in Salem, Oregon intended to build its Digit bipedal robot. The company projected initial output in the hundreds of units in the first year and stated that the site could eventually produce more than 10,000 robots per year, employing over 500 people at full capacity. Those figures described planned capacity and staffing, not production achieved in September 2023.

Agility positioned Digit for moving and handling totes within logistics and manufacturing environments, with plans to use the robots in the factory itself. RoboFab represented a dedicated industrialisation step beyond engineering prototypes and pilot demonstrations. At the time, the company expected the facility to open later in 2023, while production ramp and end-customer deliveries remained future milestones.

Construction began in 2022, with Agility planning initial customer deliveries in 2024 through its partner programme and general market availability in 2025. The factory programme is led by chief operating officer Aindrea Campbell, whose manufacturing experience includes Ford and Apple. The announced schedule describes the company’s intended ramp from early production into a larger commercial supply operation.
