Aleph Surgical raises $7.5M to build autonomous robotic surgery

Aleph Surgical has raised $7.5 million in pre-seed funding led by Andreessen Horowitz to develop autonomous surgical robots. Co-founder Ryan McGuire announced the round on September 30 and named BoxGroup, Reveille VC, Constellation, Forward Deployed, Valkyrie, Discipulus Ventures and Maniac Ventures among the other backers.

The company is building embodied foundation models for surgery. Its Mark 0 research platform has been shown performing vascular anastomosis, a microsurgical task involving precise vessel suturing across a long sequence. Aleph presents this as a research demonstration; it has not described a clinical deployment.

Aleph says its approach combines broad pretraining, hierarchical reasoning and a robotic system designed for autonomous control. McGuire says an early version is learning surgical tasks from demonstrations and improving through experience, with the longer-term aim of transferring skills across procedures.

Aleph is hiring in the Bay Area across AI, robotics hardware and surgical roles as it develops the platform.
