Avular and Heijmans Debut Autonomous Asphalt Roller at Schiphol

The first public demonstration showed Avular autonomy integrated into construction equipment; an industrial version was still a future target.

Avular and Dutch construction contractor Heijmans publicly demonstrated an autonomous asphalt roller at Schiphol Airport on 27 October 2025.

The machine had already undergone testing, with the Schiphol event marking its first public live demonstration rather than a commercial deployment.

Avular supplied the mobile-autonomy technology integrated into the construction equipment, while Heijmans contributed roadwork and construction expertise.

The project targets repetitive and precision-intensive road construction tasks, applying autonomous robotics to a sector facing shortages of skilled maintenance workers.

Earlier that month, Avular said it expected the first industrial version of the system to become operational in Q2 2026. At the time of the Schiphol demonstration, that remained a forward target rather than an achieved rollout.
