Figure has unveiled Figure 02, its second-generation humanoid, following a redesign of the robot’s hardware and software. Announced on 6 August, the platform combines updated sensing, hands, onboard computing and a larger battery for commercial manipulation tasks.
A 2.25 kWh battery in the torso provides more than 50% additional energy compared with the previous design. Power and communications wiring are concealed within the structure, while six RGB cameras feed an onboard vision-language model for interpreting the surroundings.
The fourth-generation hands each have 16 degrees of freedom. Figure also reports three times the onboard computing and AI inference capacity of its earlier robot. Microphones and speakers support speech interaction through models developed with OpenAI.
Before the launch, Figure 02 underwent AI data collection and use-case training at BMW Manufacturing. The announcement follows Figure’s $675 million Series B and its OpenAI collaboration, as the company develops humanoids for commercial work and eventual household applications.
