HD Hyundai Robotics Invests KRW13B in AIDIN Robotics
The deal adds force sensing and a shipyard-ready robotic hand to HD Hyundai’s push into Physical AI and humanoids.
HD Hyundai Robotics has invested KRW13 billion (about USD9.7 million) in AIDIN Robotics, a South Korean developer of force and tactile sensing technology.
The investment forms part of a KRW16 billion strategic financing completed by AIDIN, with Samsung Venture Investment also participating. HD Hyundai Robotics said the deal will support its push into Physical AI and help secure core technology for future humanoid robots.
AIDIN develops and manufactures capacitive force, torque and tactile sensors that allow robots to detect contact and regulate the amount of force applied to objects. The company also develops control software and automation systems using data from those sensors.
Following the investment, HD Hyundai Robotics and AIDIN plan to jointly develop a five-finger robotic hand designed for shipbuilding and heavy-industry environments. HD Hyundai Robotics intends to later integrate the hand technology into humanoid robots currently under development.
The companies will also work together on automating surface-treatment processes including grinding and polishing. The initial focus is shipbuilding and heavy industry, with the partners identifying other manufacturing environments and overseas markets, including U.S. shipyards, as potential deployment areas.
The investment adds a sensing and manipulation component to HD Hyundai Robotics’ broader expansion into AI-enabled robotics. For AIDIN, it provides a strategic industrial partner with access to demanding manufacturing environments where force control, tactile feedback and durable hardware matter together.
