Ouster selected for Komatsu autonomous mining vehicle LiDAR supply

Komatsu selects REV7 digital sensors for a planned upgrade from 2D to 3D mining-equipment perception.

Ouster selected for Komatsu autonomous mining vehicle LiDAR supply

Ouster and Komatsu announced a multimillion-dollar LiDAR supply agreement on 8 May 2025 for Komatsu’s autonomous mining equipment. The integration will use long- and short-range OS-series sensors from Ouster’s REV7 generation to support detection, navigation and collision avoidance.

The partnership provides a route from legacy two-dimensional LiDAR to three-dimensional environmental sensing. Komatsu said the selected equipment can withstand mining-related shock, vibration and temperature requirements while providing greater range and spatial awareness. Ouster’s software features include zone monitoring and firmware updates.

Komatsu will also receive early access to future Ouster products for testing and development. The sensors form part of the equipment maker’s wider autonomy system, alongside positioning, vehicle control and operational safety. The announcement identifies Ouster as a supplier for the programme without disclosing a sensor quantity or vehicle-production volume.
