Overland AI unveils Ibex autonomous UGV as military production agreement reaches $25M

Seattle-based Overland AI unveiled Ibex on 7 October, a Polaris MRZR-based autonomous ground vehicle selected for planned integration with the US Marine Corps' Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS). Built around the military's existing MRZR drivetrain and logistics supply, Ibex is designed to carry 2,000 lb, travel above 35 mph under autonomous control and cover up to 250 miles at a 20 mph cruising speed. It provides 5 kW of export power, uses diesel or JP-8 fuel and is designed for V-22 air transport, according to the company.

Ibex combines Overland's OverDrive autonomy software, OverWatch operator interface and SPARK vehicle hardware to traverse off-road terrain without continuous teleoperation, including in degraded communications and positioning environments. Its initial programme concerns mobile support for the Marine Corps' counter-drone air-defence systems, rather than a claim that Ibex itself is a deployed autonomous weapon. Overland disclosed an additional $4.5 million APFIT contract modification on 6 October to extend its original approximately $20 million Marine Corps production award to the US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment and wider military users, bringing the programme to approximately $25 million.

Overland introduced its ULTRA autonomous vehicle in April 2025 and announced $100 million in financing in February 2026, including a $20 million venture-debt facility, to expand manufacturing and field support. A separate $14.3 million contract awarded in September covers installing autonomous navigation on heavy-duty trucks for military breaching operations, distinct from the approximately $25 million APFIT programme. With Ibex, Overland now offers both a dedicated ground robot and a military-chassis-based platform, alongside autonomy retrofits for existing vehicles.
