Sanctuary AI introduces sixth-generation Phoenix robot with Carbon control

Sanctuary AI has unveiled Phoenix, its sixth-generation general-purpose robot, alongside the Carbon control platform. The 16 May introduction combines humanlike manipulation hardware with software intended to translate task instructions into physical work.

Phoenix stands 5 ft 7 in, weighs 155 lb and has a maximum payload of 55 lb. Its hands provide 20 degrees of freedom and haptic sensing intended to support fine object manipulation and information about contact.

Carbon combines language models, symbolic and logical reasoning, deep learning and reinforcement learning. The platform includes task and motion planning, physics-based simulation, teleoperation, human supervision and fleet-management functions.

The launch follows Sanctuary’s first commercial trial with an earlier robot generation. The company is developing Phoenix around customer work tasks across multiple industries, with Carbon serving as the common control system. Its general-purpose positioning describes the development programme rather than proof that the robot can independently perform arbitrary jobs.
