Watney Robotics raises $80M Series A for data center robotics
Watney says its dexterous robots have logged hundreds of thousands of operating hours in hyperscale data centers since 2025.
Watney Robotics has raised USD 80 million in Series A funding, according to the company’s announcement, taking total funding above USD 100 million as it expands dexterous robots for physical work inside data centers. The round was co-led by Valor Atreides AI Fund and Hummingbird Ventures, with continued participation from Conviction, Abstract, A* and Grant Gordon.
Watney says it has been working with major hyperscalers since 2025 through an end-to-end deployment model focused on physical work around compute infrastructure. It reports hundreds of thousands of operating hours in customer facilities, more than 99.99% reliability and what it describes as the largest fleet of dexterous robots running continuously across the United States. Those metrics are company-reported; the funding announcement does not disclose fleet size or customer names.
The systems are designed for data-center tasks where precision and repeatability matter more than reproducing human motion. Watney says it chooses robot embodiments around each operational problem rather than copying human workflows, with precision, reliability and scale as the intended advantages.
Recent WIRED reporting identified Watney as one of the suppliers Meta is testing for data-center technician work, including cable changes at its Altoona, Iowa campus since June 2025. The wider trials cover server power cycling, hardware reseating and other maintenance tasks, with the robots still operating under human supervision and at lower speeds than technicians.
Founded in San Francisco in 2023, according to its SEC Form D filing, Watney is targeting a part of the robotics market being pulled forward by AI-infrastructure expansion. The raise points to a bottleneck beyond compute hardware: physical deployment, maintenance and reconfiguration inside the facilities that house it.
