ZAP Surgical raises $36M for gyroscopic robotic radiosurgery

ZAP Surgical has secured $36 million in financing led by Catalio Capital Management, with continued support from Baheal, its strategic partner in China. The 19 October 2026 announcement follows shipment of the company’s 50th ZAP-X system and reports nearly 10,000 patients treated worldwide. The capital will support global commercial expansion and production capacity for its robotic radiosurgery platform.

ZAP-X directs radiation from a linear accelerator mounted in a gyroscopic structure, allowing beams to converge on a selected intracranial target from multiple angles. Its integrated shielding is designed to support installation without a conventional radiation vault, subject to site and local shielding requirements. The company supplies academic medical centres, community hospitals and physician-led practices.

The platform began clinical treatments at Barrow Brain and Spine in January 2019, following U.S. FDA clearance in 2017. Subsequent authorisations included Japan in 2020 and the European Union in 2021. Baheal supports ZAP’s commercial presence in China, while the new Catalio investment adds another capital partner for U.S. and international expansion.

ZAP is also studying radiomodulation, which uses precisely targeted low-dose radiation to alter brain activity. The company reports preliminary first-in-human pilot work in severe treatment-resistant depression and plans broader multicentre trials in depression and addiction. Catalio’s Nicholas von Guionneau will join the board as an observer as the company develops those investigational applications alongside its neuro-oncology business.
