Kraken Robotics announced a definitive agreement on 13 March 2025 to acquire US subsea LiDAR specialist 3D at Depth for $17 million in cash, subject to closing adjustments and customary conditions. The target developed underwater laser imaging and measurement systems used to inspect seabed infrastructure, offshore assets and subsea installations. At announcement the acquisition was agreed, not yet completed; Kraken expected closing around 1 April 2025.
Colorado-headquartered 3D at Depth had 56 employees, service operations in Houston and offices in the UK. Kraken disclosed its unaudited 2024 revenue at $14 million, gross profit at $8.4 million, or 60% margin, and operating income at $1.1 million. The company also reported a 20% three-year revenue compound annual growth rate, connecting the acquisition to a measurable operating business rather than an early technology-only purchase.
3D at Depth’s team had completed more than 450 projects in 18 countries, using its sensors on platforms including remotely operated vehicles, crawlers and uncrewed underwater vehicles. Kraken said the technology would complement its SeaVision laser scanners with extended range in deep-water conditions and capabilities such as non-contact vibration and temperature measurement. The acquisition would also add US facilities and offshore customer relationships to Kraken’s existing sonar, optical sensing and subsea battery operations.
