MicroVision starts MOVIA Pro lidar production and commercial shipments

MicroVision has begun commercial production and shipments of MOVIA Pro, its short-range lidar sensor with integrated perception processing. The company is manufacturing the device at its Orlando facility and taking customer orders as programmes move from prototype evaluation into commercial use.

MOVIA Pro is the production version of MOVIA S. It combines the lidar’s point-cloud measurements with computing that processes those measurements on the sensor. MicroVision’s open Linux-based software framework lets developers build, deploy and update applications locally, producing object-level information that connected machines and control systems can use.

The sensor supports multi-echo measurements, capturing more than one return from a single emitted laser pulse to help detect objects in challenging conditions. CAN, Gigabit Ethernet, 100 Mbit Ethernet and industrial I/O provide connections to vehicles and equipment. Integrating processing into the sensor can reduce the external computing hardware and cabling required for a perception system.

MicroVision is targeting warehouse robots, automated guided vehicles and forklift assistance, where near-field obstacle awareness supports movement around people and equipment. The same platform is intended for unmanned aerial and ground systems, infrastructure monitoring and security applications. Customers can develop application-specific perception software on the device and update it as requirements change.
