Tesla begins production-quality Optimus manufacturing in Fremont
Tesla places Fremont Optimus production in early ramp as construction continues on its Texas robot manufacturing facility.

Tesla says it has begun building Optimus on high-volume manufacturing lines in Fremont, California. In its third-quarter 2026 shareholder update, the company describes the first robots from those lines as production-quality units and classifies the California operation as an early manufacturing ramp.
Tesla says the current manufacturing process is suitable for a commercial product, with continued changes planned for both robot hardware and production methods. Its factory table lists a second Optimus operation in Texas as under construction. The two sites therefore occupy different stages of the company's robot-manufacturing buildout.
The Fremont milestone follows Tesla's April shareholder update, which listed both California and Texas Optimus manufacturing as under construction. Moving the California line into early ramp gives Tesla a production process on which to refine assembly and hardware as it increases output.
Tesla is also expanding the computing infrastructure shared by its vehicle and humanoid autonomy programmes. The Q3 update lists more than 105 MW of Cortex 1 training capacity and more than 120 MW of Cortex 2 in production in Texas, with a target of 400 MW of total training compute by year-end. That infrastructure supports the software development running alongside the Optimus factory programme.
