Unitree introduces R1 as a lower-priced humanoid development platform

Unitree introduced the R1 humanoid on 25 July 2025 with advertised launch pricing from $5,900, adding a lower-priced platform to its humanoid range. The company presented it as an intelligent companion and a platform for customisation, with voice and image interaction alongside whole-body movement. The headline price is an entry configuration price, rather than a universal delivered cost across markets and development packages.

The launch demonstration centres on locomotion and balance, showing R1 performing cartwheels, handstands and boxing movements, as well as running downhill. These sequences demonstrate the robot’s movement repertoire; the video does not establish autonomous completion of industrial work or sustained task performance.

R1 joins Unitree’s H1 and G1 humanoids, giving developers another hardware option for exploring embodied AI and motion control. The company also develops quadrupeds and robot joint hardware. Development access and computing options depend on the chosen configuration, so the lowest advertised price should not be treated as the price of every research setup.
