Nordbo Robotics documented a sanding cell at Danish wood-component producer Bjerrum Nielsen on 15 August 2025, integrating Mimic with a Universal Robots UR10e, Nordbo Active Compensation Unit and a Mirka sanding tool. Operators demonstrate sanding motions directly to the robot, which then reproduces the trajectories in automated finishing.
The manufacturer works on high-end wood products, including oak mouldings used in Bang & Olufsen BeoLab 50 speakers. The application couples recorded tool paths with a force-compliance component, a meaningful difference from simple position-only surface tracing: sanding quality depends on sustained contact despite variations in workpiece shape and placement.
Operators can refine recorded trajectories digitally before running them on the production cell. The Active Compensation Unit adjusts contact as the sander follows the wood surface, helping accommodate workpiece variation without requiring every deviation to be captured in the taught path. Nordbo reports that the combination made programming easier and improved consistency for Bjerrum Nielsen’s specialised wood-finishing work.
