About

About Kodiak AI

Kodiak's SensorPods package cameras, lidar and radar into field-replaceable units, allowing maintenance crews to restore a vehicle's sensing hardware without rebuilding the installation. The driving system includes redundant power, steering and braking, with dedicated safety computing. Simulation, road testing and an operating-environment-specific safety case support decisions about removing the onboard driver.

Commercialisation combines Driver-as-a-Service with vehicle and fleet partnerships. Industrial trucks already operate without anyone in the cab in the Permian Basin. Long-haul highway service remains a separate launch programme: on 8 September 2026, Kodiak reported its highway safety case was still undergoing final engineering verification and validation, with commercial driverless service targeted for year-end.

Notes

Profile notes

  • Kodiak's first commercial driverless trucks are owned and operated by the customer

reviewed 2026-07-20 - Kodiak supplied its Driver technology and delivered equipped trucks to Atlas Energy, which owns and operates them in a private industrial logistics network. The milestone is a product deployment rather than a Kodiak-run freight service, and its operating domain should not be generalised to open-road nationwide trucking.
