About Neuralink
The N1 implant records neural activity through 1,024 electrodes distributed across 64 flexible threads. Neuralink’s R1 surgical robot inserts those threads into targeted areas of the brain while avoiding surface blood vessels, after which the implant communicates wirelessly with an external computer.
Software decodes patterns associated with intended movement and converts them into cursor, keyboard or device-control commands. Neuralink’s PRIME study evaluates computer control for people with paralysis, while a separate feasibility study extends the interface toward controlling an assistive robotic arm.

Events
- 2026-04-30 - Capability - Neuralink details surgical robot automation for implant procedure
Neuralink published a video describing its surgical robot work for automating key steps in receiving a Neuralink implant. The company framed the robot as improving safety, reliability, and scalability for implant procedures. The update reinforces the R1 surgical robot as a core enabling system for Neuralink's clinical BCI platform rather than a standalone surgical robot product.
Source - 2026-04-29 - Capability - Neuralink participant controls robotic arm through CONVOY study
Alex Conley, the second Neuralink participant, used the N1 Implant to control a robotic arm at Barrow Neurological Institute. The robotic arm work is part of Neuralink's CONVOY study, which explores BCI control of assistive devices in real-world use. The update marks Neuralink's clearest recent robotics milestone beyond digital cursor control, but it remains a clinical feasibility study rather than a commercial assistive-robot deployment.
Source - 2026-01-01 - Market Signal - Neuralink targets high-volume implant production and automated surgical procedures
Neuralink targeted high-volume production of its brain-computer interface devices beginning in 2026. The same report described a planned transition toward fully automated surgical implantation procedures. The update links Neuralink's implant scale-up to automation around a robot-assisted medical workflow.
Source - 2025-06-02 - Funding - Neuralink raises $650 million Series E
ARK Invest, DFJ Growth, Founders Fund, G42, Human Capital, Lightspeed, QIA, Sequoia Capital, Thrive Capital, Valor Equity Partners and Vy Capital participated. Neuralink linked the financing to broader access for people with unmet medical needs and continued brain-interface development. At the announcement, Neuralink reported five people with severe paralysis using its technology and clinical trials spanning the United States, Canada and the UAE.
Source - 2024-11-24 - Regulatory - Neuralink launches CONVOY feasibility study for robotic arm control
Neuralink received approval and launched CONVOY, a feasibility study extending N1 Implant control to an assistive robotic arm. CONVOY is designed to evaluate whether people with paralysis can use the N1 Implant to control external robotic assistance. The study expands Neuralink's device-control work from computer interfaces toward physical assistive machines.
Source - 2024-11-01 - Regulatory - Neuralink receives Health Canada approval for CAN-PRIME Study
Neuralink received Health Canada approval to launch CAN-PRIME, its first international clinical trial. CAN-PRIME extends evaluation of the N1 Implant and R1 Robot system outside the United States. The trial studies safety and early effectiveness of Neuralink's implant and surgical robot system.
Source - 2024-09-01 - Regulatory - Neuralink receives FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for Blindsight
The visual prosthesis program is intended to restore visual perception for people with severe vision loss. The designation supports faster development and review but does not represent market approval.
Source - 2024-04-12 - Capability - Neuralink reports PRIME Study progress after first human implant
Neuralink published a progress update on the PRIME Study after the first human implantation. The company said the participant was using the implant to control a computer cursor and digital interfaces. Neuralink also disclosed that some implant threads had retracted from the brain, reducing electrode effectiveness and prompting software and signal-processing changes.
Source - 2024-01-29 - Deployment - Neuralink reports first human implant in PRIME Study
Neuralink announced that the first human participant had received its brain-computer interface implant. The PRIME Study evaluates both the wireless implant and the surgical robot used for implantation. The milestone marked Neuralink's first human use of its implantable BCI system.
Source - 2023-09-19 - Regulatory - Neuralink opens recruitment for first-in-human PRIME Study
Neuralink opened recruitment for its first-in-human PRIME Study at its first hospital site. The study targets people with quadriplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Neuralink described the study as evaluating the investigational N1 Implant and R1 Robot system.
Source - 2023-05-01 - Regulatory - Neuralink receives FDA approval to launch first-in-human PRIME Study
Neuralink received FDA approval in May 2023 to launch its first-in-human PRIME Study. The study evaluates the safety and initial effectiveness of the N1 Implant and R1 surgical robot system for people with paralysis. The approval moved Neuralink from preclinical development into human clinical testing for its implantable brain-computer interface.
