About JD.com
JD.com uses automation across the path from stored inventory to the recipient. Its intelligent logistics parks combine automated storage, goods-to-person systems, picking robots, sortation equipment and operational software to move orders through fulfilment. JD Logistics also develops autonomous delivery vehicles that leave local stations with parcels, plan routes and notify customers when an order is ready for collection.
The fifth-generation delivery vehicle carries up to 200 kilograms and has a stated range of up to 100 kilometres, while indoor derivatives can navigate buildings and interact with lifts. Remote command centres supervise exceptions and simulation is used to train driving behaviour before deployment. JD has also used drones for routes where terrain or distance make ground delivery inefficient. These systems operate inside JD’s own retail and logistics network and are increasingly packaged as automation and supply-chain services for external customers.
