About
About IUNA AI
IUNA's Weld Inspector combines cameras, controlled lighting, an AI server and PLC integration to inspect weld seams directly on the production line. The system detects missing, misplaced and visually defective welds and links the result with the individual component moving through the factory.
Assembly Inspector applies the same architecture to presence checks, dimensional features, OCR and code verification. IUNA trains the models around the customer's parts and process, then integrates the inspection station with existing line controls and quality systems for automated inspection of every component.

Timeline
Events
- 2025-12-09 - Product Launch - Text-to-Mask Label Toolkit update cuts model training to minutes
The updated workflow used text commands to identify and label weld seams for model training. IUNA said Vision Foundation Models reduced customer-specific training from days to minutes. The company had continuously used and optimized the internal labeling tool since 2021.
Source - 2025-09-15 - Demonstration - Weld Inspector detects ISO-classified defects live at Essen
Visitors saw the scanner identify and classify weld defects in real time. The demonstration applied inspection criteria aligned with ISO 5817, ISO 10042 and ISO 6520-1. IUNA shared its booth with AWL, combining AI inspection software with robotic-automation expertise.
Source - 2024-06-28 - Product Launch - Assembly Inspector validates wheel valve caps before OEM delivery
The vision workflow compared valve-cap colour and shape with the valve shown in the inspection image. The automated check was intended to prevent incorrect wheel and tyre combinations from reaching vehicle manufacturers.
Source - 2023-10-14 - Product Launch - Auto Scanner enters finish-line surface inspection
The new configuration moved Auto Scanner beyond body-shop inspection into the finishing process. It targeted paint defects, dents, dings and other surface imperfections during final inspection. The extension was designed to improve end-of-line product quality and inspection efficiency.
Source - 2022-02-15 - Deployment - Anomaly detection completes Audi body-shop inspection automation
The third version detected both predefined defect classes and anomalies with little or no historical image data. The anomaly capability targeted rare defects that previously depended on human visual inspection. IUNA says the deployment completed inspection automation in the Audi body shop and replaced the manual visual check.
Source - 2021-09-24 - Product Launch - Modular IUNA AI Inspector moves inline
The product reused inspection know-how developed through the Auto Scanner programme. Its modular architecture was intended to support different software applications and manufacturing tasks. IUNA positioned the system for straightforward inline installation in industrial production.
Source - 2021-03-11 - Product Launch - Auto Scanner v2 adds standardized body-shop geometry checks
The scanner checked standard body points for waviness, dents, sheet-metal irregularities and related defects. Its inspection data helped production teams trace process-related errors and supplier-originated defects. The release expanded the initial surface-damage proof of concept into a repeatable body-shop inspection workflow.
Source - 2020-09-01 - Partnership - IUNA becomes Audi development partner for R8 body inspection
The cooperation focused on the Audi R8 body shop in Neckarsulm. IUNA and the automaker set out to extend Auto Scanner v1 from proof of concept to autonomous defect identification. The target inspection covered surface-geometry defects on the vehicle body.
Source - 2020-03-15 - Product Launch - Auto Scanner v1 proves line-side surface-damage detection
The first version was completed as part of the University of Stuttgart and Audi research project. It applied image analysis to detect surface damage directly on vehicles in production. The completed system provided the proof of concept for later fully autonomous inspection versions.
Source - 2019-09-01 - Partnership - Stuttgart-Audi research project starts AI vehicle inspection
The project targeted automated image analysis for vehicle quality assurance on the assembly line. Its goal was to establish proof of concept for autonomous defect inspection using AI. The university machine-learning group was initiated and led by future IUNA founder Jan Nabatian.
