About
About Hanwha Systems
Hanwha Systems supplies the sensor, command and autonomy layers used across Korean defence platforms. Its portfolio includes surveillance radar, electro-optics, tactical communications, combat-management systems and avionics. These components are integrated into aircraft, ships, ground systems and wider command networks so detections and mission data can move between sensors, operators and effectors.
The unmanned-maritime range includes AURA and Sea Ghost surface vessels, mine-hunting and anti-submarine underwater vehicles and docking systems for recovering UUVs. Open architectures support changing payloads, while autonomous route planning, COLREG-based collision avoidance and alternative navigation are designed for degraded GPS conditions. Hanwha is also developing swarm and manned–unmanned coordination through naval combat systems.

- 2026-07-09 - Demonstration - Hanwha Systems begins sea trials for self-funded 30-ton unmanned surface vessel
The vessel is operating on routes between Busan and Geoje and is expected to remain in validation through the end of 2027. Hanwha is using the 30-ton USV to validate AI-based autonomous navigation and UMAA-compatible open architecture for unmanned maritime operations. The company has invested about KRW70B across the 30-ton vessel and a planned 140-ton combat-capable USV.
Source - 2026-07-02 - Partnership - Milrem and Hanwha Systems sign autonomous-ground-vehicle payload MoU
The companies signed the MoU at Eurosatory 2026. Candidate payload areas include EO/IR, radar, jamming, laser and weapon-integration systems. The agreement covers evaluation work; it does not establish a fielded configuration or order.
Source - 2026-06-01 - Capability - Hanwha Systems and Korea ADD develop domestic laser oscillator for Cheongwang anti-drone system
South Korea's Agency for Defense Development and Hanwha Systems developed a domestic laser oscillator for the Cheongwang Block-I laser anti-drone weapon. The domestic oscillator will replace a previously German-made component in new Cheongwang systems. Testing reportedly reduced the time needed to disable FPV drones to roughly one to two seconds, improving the system's low-cost drone interception profile.
Source - 2022-06-14 - Funding - Hanwha Systems and Hanwha Aerospace invest KRW 150B in Overair eVTOL developer
The investment targeted Overair's electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft development. Hanwha Systems connected the investment to urban air mobility and aerospace systems expansion. The funding followed Hanwha's earlier participation in Overair's program.
Source - 2020-12-24 - Partnership - Hanwha Systems invests $30M in Kymeta for LEO satellite antenna collaboration
The investment targeted Kymeta's metamaterial-based electronically steerable antenna technology. Hanwha Systems and Kymeta planned to develop LEO antenna solutions for South Korea and other markets. Hanwha tied the deal to satellite communications and vehicle, vessel, and fixed-platform connectivity.
