About Weco
Weco converts wave motion into electricity for equipment operating offshore. Its compact Denshi buoy uses a rack-and-pinion mechanism to drive an internal generator, alongside a battery, computing and communications. Single-point mooring and deployment from a small vessel are intended to support distributed sensors and communications without large installation vessels.
Founded in 2023 and based in The Hague, Weco develops both modular wave-energy converters and maritime power platforms. Its development programme includes open-sea prototype testing and a Denshi demonstration at REPMUS 2026 with Dutch defence support. The company targets offshore monitoring, autonomous maritime systems, environmental research and other blue-economy applications.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-10-12 - Demonstration - Weco reports Denshi wave-powered buoy demonstration at REPMUS
REPMUS ran from August 31 to September 25 around Tróia and Sesimbra; the exact Denshi test day is undisclosed. The buoy combines wave-driven power generation, a battery, computing and LTE/4G/5G communications for offshore payloads. Weco will use exercise lessons to develop Denshi for maritime security and long-term ocean monitoring.

The buoy uses a rack-and-pinion mechanism to drive an internal generator and can carry batteries and computing. Weco describes a platform under 100 kg and about one metre across, deployed from a small vessel on a single-point mooring. The platform targets maritime security, environmental monitoring and offshore infrastructure sensing.

The investment supports optimization of the next-generation prototype ahead of larger-scale demonstrations. The modular Kaizen system converts orbital wave motion into generator rotation. The company planned further local and international partner testing in 2026 to validate performance and commercial applicability.

The company said its drop-and-pull installation made the converter operational in 32 minutes during the trial. DEMCON Unmanned Systems carried out autonomous inspection routines with a surface vessel; the work remained prototype validation.
