Source - 2025-04-14 - Deployment - EASE begins Kratos truck-platooning freight service on I-70
Two trucks carry actual customer freight between Columbus and Indianapolis using Kratos leader-follower platooning technology. Both cabs retain drivers who completed 260 training hours; either driver can disengage automation and take control. The programme tests Midwestern weather and operating conditions, with a purple cab light signalling platooning to law enforcement.
Source - 2024-03-12 - Deployment - Kratos and EASE plan automated truck platooning in Ohio and Indiana
EASE supplied the leader and follower trucks, which Kratos retrofitted with automated driving technology. A driver remains in the leader and a safety rider in the follower can assume manual control at any time. The planned service would carry customer freight in 53-foot trailers on short-haul routes as part of normal logistics activity.
Source - 2023-05-17 - Deployment - EASE begins preparatory runs for Ohio automated-trucking programme
Both trucks retain trained drivers; the follower matches the lead vehicle’s speed, braking and acceleration in platooning mode. Drivers completed 400 combined training hours and were conducting preliminary solo runs to check data transmission and select routes. Platooning can be overridden by either driver and disengages automatically when a vehicle enters between the trucks.
