About Incat Crowther
Incat Crowther provides naval architecture, engineering and construction support for specialist vessels. It works with operators to define a vessel’s requirements, develop its hull and systems, and turn the design into a detailed digital model for construction. Partner shipyards build the vessels, while Incat Crowther can provide project assurance, quality oversight and support throughout the ship’s working life. Its wider portfolio includes passenger ferries, offshore workboats and defence craft.
Its uncrewed-vessel work includes naval architecture and design services for HII’s ROMULUS programme, supported by its Louisiana engineering team. That role sits alongside HII’s autonomy and systems integration and the work of the construction partners. Based in Belrose, Australia, with offices in North America and Europe, Incat Crowther supplies engineering and delivery expertise across different hull forms and operating requirements.

- 2026-09-29 - Contract Award - HII wins U.S. Navy contract for 10 ROMULUS USVs
ROMULUS uses HII's modular, open-architecture Odyssey Autonomous Control Solutions. HII began securing ROMULUS production capacity, infrastructure, partners and suppliers in 2025. Incat Crowther confirmed on October 6 that its Louisiana team will continue providing naval architecture and design services throughout the ROMULUS build programme.

The partnership combines vessel engineering and construction work with HII’s Odyssey autonomous-control system. Construction of ROMULUS 190 was 30% complete at the time of the announcement. A commercial-standard hull and reconfigurable layout are intended to support repeatable construction and different mission configurations.
