About Danaher
Danaher is a life-sciences and diagnostics group whose operating companies supply research instruments, reagents, software and clinical technologies. Its laboratory-automation programme connects instruments that can be controlled through software with AI-ready experimental data. The first planned autonomous lab is based at Abcam and combines technologies from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, Cytiva, Genedata, Integrated DNA Technologies and Molecular Devices.
The lab is designed to create affinity reagents, including antibodies, through a repeating cycle of design, construction, testing and learning from results. Automata contributes device orchestration and robotic automation, while scientists retain key decisions. Operation at scale is targeted for early 2027. The programme represents a planned integration of existing technologies into a more autonomous research workflow; projected gains in speed and reagent output are targets rather than established operating results.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-10-14 - Partnership - Danaher and NVIDIA collaborate on autonomous science
Initial work focuses on selected priority instruments rather than an immediate portfolio-wide rollout. The collaboration includes edge computing, accelerated analytics, real-time inference and BioNeMo models. The companies are exploring Cosmos world models and Omniverse digital twins for laboratory workflows.
Source - 2026-10-07 - Partnership - Danaher plans autonomous laboratory with Automata robotic orchestration
The workflow develops affinity reagents, including antibodies, and feeds experimental results back into models to improve later designs. Technologies come from Beckman Coulter Life Sciences, Cytiva, Genedata, Integrated DNA Technologies and Molecular Devices; Automata contributes device orchestration and robotic automation. The lab is designed to target up to eight times faster reagent discovery and a tenfold increase in annual reagent generation.
