acontis technologies is a German embedded-software company that supplies the communication and timing software used inside industrial controllers. Its EC-Master product connects a controller to motor drives, sensors and other devices over EtherCAT, an industrial network designed for tightly timed data exchange. Configuration and diagnostic tools help engineers set up and troubleshoot those networks.
The company also develops software for running time-critical control tasks alongside ordinary Windows or Linux applications on one computer. Machine builders can use it to combine motion control with interfaces, data logging and other software while assigning computing resources to the tasks that need predictable timing.

The test network comprised 64 Beckhoff and Omron SubDevices running a one-millisecond cycle. EC-Master processing stayed below 5% CPU load in the tested process-data configurations. The configuration uses real-time Yocto Linux, the atemsys driver and CPU isolation for the MainDevice application.
