About Adaptronics

Adaptronics builds its gripping interface around a flexible printed-electronics film called the Electro Active Adhesive Layer. Applied voltage creates electrostatic adhesion, and a conformable backing helps the contact surface follow the object being handled. A mounting interface connects the assembly to a robot or automated machine, with a standard 24-volt electronics unit supplying power and industrial communications.

The film also provides sensing feedback about proximity and contact, allowing the gripping action to produce information as well as holding force. Adhesive area can be increased to suit the handling requirement. Adaptronics applies the approach to industrial equipment such as packaging machines and conveying systems, while also developing space-handling applications where vacuum conditions and the geometry of the target affect the choice of gripper.
