About
About Advanced Smart Mobility
Advanced Smart Mobility, also known as AS Mobi, develops autonomous-driving systems for buses and commercial vehicles. The University of Tokyo spinout combines driving software, sensors, control hardware and vehicle integration, then supports mapping, public-road validation and field trials with transport operators and local authorities.
The company reports demonstration work across more than 20 Japanese prefectures and involvement in Level 4 public-transport programmes. Its August 2026 field-trial integration of Cerence Emergency Vehicle Detection adds exterior-audio perception so autonomous buses can recognize approaching ambulances, police vehicles and fire engines and respond appropriately.

- 2026-10-03 - Deployment - Advanced Smart Mobility begins Level 2 bus trial in Hachioji
A short-wheelbase Hino Poncho runs one to two services per hour on designated days through December 25; a university-route extension is planned from January 2027. Joint work with Tokyo University of Technology uses the SEIRAN supercomputer to improve AI perception and driving control. The programme targets Level 4 implementation in FY2027 and driverless commercial operation after an operating permit planned for May 2028.

The integration uses exterior microphones to detect ambulances, police cars and fire engines and feed an appropriate vehicle response. Cerence describes this as its first autonomous-bus programme in Japan and its first EVD deployment using exterior microphones. The current activity is a field-trial deployment; commercial deployment is targeted for 2027.
