About Caterpillar
Caterpillar has developed autonomy for off-road machinery since the 1980s and introduced its first commercial autonomous-haulage system in 2013. The company combines Cat heavy equipment with onboard perception and control, site infrastructure, fleet management, remote operations and dealer-led implementation through the MineStar Command portfolio.
Current offerings range from operator-assist and remote-control functions to fully autonomous surface haulage, autonomous drilling and automated underground load-haul-dump work. Caterpillar reports that Command-equipped fleets have moved more than 11 billion tonnes with no reported injuries. The platform has also moved beyond large mines: Cat 777 trucks at Luck Stone’s Bull Run quarry hauled more than two million tonnes during their first year of single-shift autonomous operation.
