About EGS Survey Australia

EGS Survey Australia conducts hydrographic, geophysical and positioning work for ports, shipping, offshore energy, telecommunications and marine construction. Its services cover bathymetry, cable and pipeline routes, environmental surveys, subsea positioning and related field operations.

The company operates purpose-built Fremantle-class uncrewed surface vessels for long-duration coastal survey work. Greenroom Robotics' GAMA software provides remote and autonomous control, while the vessels carry survey payloads and retain optional crewing for regulatory or operational flexibility.

  • 2026-08-27 - Production Milestone - EGS Australia christens Fremantle 02 survey vessel

The maiden mission is planned under the Royal Australian Navy HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program and had not begun at publication. Fremantle 01 previously operated about 90% of its missions autonomously; EGS reported a 94% diesel reduction and about 135 tonnes of avoided emissions during one 42-day mission. Operating Fremantle 01 and 02 together is intended to shorten survey missions without increasing crew at sea; that fleet benefit was presented as an operating expectation.

  • 2026-02-06 - Deployment - EGS completes first USV cable-route survey with Fremantle 01

Fremantle 01 left and returned to Fishing Boat Harbour under fully remote piloting from EGS Australia’s Fremantle operations centre. EGS prepared, deployed and surveyed with the vessel and delivered the project outputs within three days. The 12-metre vessel operated in seas of about 1.5 metres and winds of 20–25 knots during the project.

  • 2025-02-17 - Partnership - EGS Survey selects Greenroom Robotics’ GAMA for Fremantle 01 USV

EGS Survey selected Greenroom Robotics’ GAMA Remote and Autonomous Control Software as the autonomy provider for the 12-metre Fremantle 01 uncrewed surface vessel. GAMA connects with QINSy survey software and supports custom autonomy parameters, real-time mission management, COLREGs-aware collision avoidance, fail-safes and over-the-horizon connectivity. Fremantle 01 is designed to complete about 90% of survey missions autonomously, with more than 10 days of endurance and remote management from EGS Survey’s Fremantle control centre.
