About
About Frenel Imaging
Frenel Imaging develops software and sensor configurations for polarimetric thermal imaging. Its TPiCORE image-processing framework works with micro-polarizer arrays to extract polarization information from emitted thermal radiation, producing additional contrast and classification features beyond conventional thermal intensity. The company combines image-signal processing with application development for defence, industrial and machine-vision customers.
In counter-uncrewed-aircraft systems, the technology provides passive day-and-night detection and classification using thermal and polarimetric signatures. That information can help distinguish small aircraft from birds or background clutter, maintain tracks near or below the skyline and feed a wider surveillance or response system. Frenel supplies the imaging and perception layer; radar, radio-frequency detection, platform control, command decisions and any physical countermeasure are separate elements supplied by the integrator and operator.

Timeline
Events
- 2026-08-24 - Partnership - WRAP and Frenel expand counter-UAS development framework into directed energy
The disclosed laser family spans approximately 3 kW man-portable, 6 kW vehicle-mounted and 9–12 kW fixed-site configurations. Frenel’s passive thermal polarimetric technology is intended to provide the perception and tracking layer inside WrapShield. The integration remains in development, has not completed demonstration or qualification, and definitive underlying collaboration agreements have not been executed.
