About
About Gelion
Gelion develops sulfur-cathode materials and lithium-sulfur cell technology for applications where energy density and weight matter. Its Nanoparticle Enhanced Sulfur, or NES, platform is intended to work with established lithium-ion manufacturing processes while addressing conductivity and sulfur-utilisation constraints.
The company targets drones, aerospace, defence and other high-performance mobility markets. In the APC-funded ARMD4 programme, QinetiQ independently fabricated and mission-tested lithium-metal pouch cells using Gelion’s cathode material, giving the company third-party evidence under repeated high-power drone profiles.

- 2026-08-26 - Demonstration - Gelion completes QinetiQ drone-mission battery validation
QinetiQ applied a repeated mission profile of 6C take-off, 3C cruise and 6C landing across 50 cycles. The cells paired Gelion’s NES cathode with lithium-metal anodes and maintained stable voltage and power with limited degradation. The programme finished on time and budget and gives Gelion a validated basis for discussions with defence, aerospace and drone partners.

Mitsui Kinzoku will pay Gelion £2 million through staged milestone payments for the development work. The collaboration covers liquid and solid-state sulfur battery cells for automotive, stationary-storage, consumer-electronics and aerospace applications. Mitsui Kinzoku received an option to negotiate manufacturing and distribution rights for NES cathode material in selected Asian territories.
