About Polhemus
Polhemus develops electromagnetic motion-tracking systems that measure the position and orientation of sensors in six degrees of freedom. A source generates a controlled magnetic field and small wired sensors calculate their pose within it, enabling tracking without cameras, optical markers or a direct line of sight. This makes the technology useful inside instruments, around occlusions and in compact workspaces.
LIBERTY supports up to 16 sensors at 240 updates per second for higher-channel applications, while PATRIOT provides a lower-cost one- or two-sensor system at 60 updates per second. Sensor options include a millimetre-scale embeddable package for medical instruments and other space-constrained devices. Polhemus also supplies handheld styluses and source sizes for digitising physical objects or adapting the measurement volume. Robotics and medical teams use these systems for tool tracking, control calibration, human-motion studies and validation where conventional vision tracking is impractical.
