SAIC’s vehicle-intelligence stack combines central computing, vehicle-motion control and cloud services across its brands. Its Z-ONE architecture supports large onboard models and software-defined functions, while redundant chassis control provides the steering, braking and power interfaces required by higher levels of automated driving.
The group has deployed Level 4 systems in robotaxis, autonomous port trucks and factory-logistics vehicles. These programmes connect perception and planning software with production vehicles, fleet-management platforms and operating sites, while SAIC’s factories apply automation and digital production systems to vehicle and component manufacturing.

- 2026-07-19 - Market Signal - SAIC Mobility starts purpose-built Robotaxi vehicle project
SAIC Mobility announced the project at WAIC 2026 on July 19 and said it had entered substantive development. SAIC Motor will manufacture the vehicle, an unnamed autonomous-driving supplier will provide the driving system, and SAIC Mobility will define the product and operate it. The first vehicle is planned to debut in 2027 as a purpose-built, factory-integrated platform for high-level autonomous operations in Shanghai.

Hesai’s design win will be the first application of its AT128 lidar in SAIC’s commercial vehicle models, providing key perception data for these intelligent driving systems. The new models will be equipped with Hesai’s automotive – grade, ultra – high resolution long – range lidar AT128. It inherits over ten years of SAIC’s accumulated intelligent driving technology, supply chain advantages, and more than three years of commercial operation expertise.

The project placed its first 20 robotaxis into operation in Jiading on December 8, 2021. SAIC Motor's AI Laboratory and Momenta provided the integrated autonomous-driving hardware and software solution. RoboSense supplied the 128-beam main lidar and two 32-beam blind-spot lidars used to create all-around 3D coverage.
