About Smooth Robotics

SmoothTool combines a URCap software interface with a hand-guided programming flange attached to a Universal Robots arm. Welders can teach paths and adjust stitching, weaving, multipass, touch sensing and work angles through the package. Seam tracking and external-axis control are optional add-ons with specific compatibility conditions.

Smooth Robotics supplies the software and flange, while local distributors and integrators provide complete cobot welding cells, installation and on-site support. The company was founded in Odense in 2017. Its SmoothTool Academy and end-user platform provide training, updates and product support after purchase.

Timeline

Events

  • 2025-09-08 - Partnership - Smooth Robotics validates SmoothTool with Universal Robots UR8 Long

Universal Robots introduced the UR8 Long with 1,750 mm reach and an 8 kg payload for welding and other automation tasks. Smooth Robotics said it contributed welding-specific testing and launch support and paired SmoothTool features including touch sensing, weaving, multipass and seam tracking with the arm. UR8 Long’s freedrive lets welders guide the arm with SmoothTool’s programming flange, while the extended reach supports longer seams.
