About
About ThinGap
ThinGap supplies rotor-and-stator motor kits that OEMs integrate into their own mechanisms. Its LS series is designed for lower-speed precision motion, with a large central aperture and low torque ripple; its higher-speed TG series serves a different operating range. The company specifically describes robot armature and surgical-robot applications where cogging and mechanical disturbance can degrade control or haptic feedback. These are motor components, not complete joints or finished robots.
The company engineers slotless designs and application-specific motor assemblies in Camarillo, California. It became part of Allient, formerly Allied Motion, in May 2022 while continuing to operate under the ThinGap name. Its public product tables and application notes let equipment builders compare motor dimensions and torque before requesting an integration proposal.

Events
- 2026-01-27 - Product Launch - ThinGap begins TGI 148-66 motor deliveries
The motor has a 148 mm rotor outside diameter and 66 mm axial height. ThinGap reports 10.9 N-m continuous torque and 80.1 N-m one-second peak torque at just over 2.4 kg. The ironless toothless stator targets zero cogging, zero radial disturbance force and highly dynamic actuation.
Source - 2022-05-24 - Acquisition - ThinGap joins Allied Motion as a center of excellence
Allied Motion framed ThinGap as a center of excellence for slotless motor technology. The transaction added ThinGap's TG and LS motor architectures to Allied Motion's controlled-motion portfolio. ThinGap continued operating from Camarillo under its established brand.
Source - 2019-01-16 - Executive Hire - ThinGap appoints John Baumann as CEO
Baumann previously held CFO, general-management and CEO roles across public and private technology companies. The appointment also placed Baumann on ThinGap's board of directors. ThinGap described its business as US-made high-performance frameless motor kits and generators.
