About Thoro
Thoro was formed in Pittsburgh in 2021 as a spinout of Carnegie Robotics after work on the self-contained Nilfisk SC50 autonomous scrubber. It subsequently expanded into material handling with Big Joe Forklifts’ BPM44 pallet truck and reorganized the underlying technology as CoreFLEX, a reusable autonomy architecture for different OEM machines.
CoreFLEX combines NVIDIA Jetson-based edge compute with 3D lidar, RGB-D cameras, SLAM, task-specific vision models and standardized mechanical and electrical interfaces. Navigation and mission execution can run without cloud connectivity, while optional cloud services add fleet status, shared maps, analytics, over-the-air updates and WMS, WCS or ERP integration. Thoro reports more than 1,300 deployed systems across cleaning, material handling and industrial logistics.
