Volvo Penta traces its roots to the Swedish Penta engine business founded in 1907 and has operated within Volvo since the early twentieth century. The Gothenburg-based company supplies marine and industrial power systems through a worldwide manufacturing, dealer and service network, spanning combustion engines, transmissions, pod drives, controls, battery systems and hybrid-electric architectures.
Its autonomy exposure is downstream and platform-specific. Blue Ops integrated the D4-320 diesel engine and DPI DuoProp drive into the Variant 7 uncrewed surface vessel, connecting the propulsion package to the vessel’s autonomous navigation, remote-operation and mission-management architecture. Volvo Penta remains the propulsion and support provider; Blue Ops owns the vessel and autonomy layer. That distinction places the company in propulsion components rather than autonomous-vehicle building.
