About Phantom FireFly

Phantom FireFly is a portable remotely operated vehicle developed for visual inspection inside nuclear facilities. Its compact sub-unit can move through confined reactor-pool structures, including steam-dryer assemblies and routes opened through a stub tube or removed fuel bundle. Deep Ocean keeps the vehicle's electronics outside the submerged unit to improve serviceability and reduce the number of radiation-sensitive components exposed during an inspection.

The 6.35-kilogram vehicle measures 190 by 146 by 343 millimetres and uses individually controlled, shaft-driven thrusters powered from 48-volt surface motors. A camera mount provides 180 degrees of tilt, with radiation-tolerant camera options available for high-dose environments. The NIS-300 control system supports analogue, component and 1080p video and is designed to remain compatible with earlier Phantom equipment. These features define FireFly as a specialist inspection platform, distinct from a general-purpose work-class ROV.
